Where To Have A Baby Shower On A Budget
You can transform a plain community center room into an adorable, memorable room by spending very little money on decorations. The venue doesn’t have to be extravagant for it to look very nice (I will talk more about baby shower decor below). Try booking a day at one of these affordable venues:
- Local church
- Community center
- A local park
- A family member’s house
- Your own home
Venues like these normally cost less than $100 for the day. The good thing about most of these options are, a lot of them already have tables and chairs you can set up without having to rent them (unless you’re having it at your home or someone else’s home).
Only Use Budget-Friendly Baby Shower Decorations
Decide on a color scheme or general theme for the baby shower. Go over to Pinterest and search for baby shower decor ideas. You will see hundreds of beautiful baby shower photos and get an idea of what you can work toward yours looking like. Once you’ve figured out what you like, take a trip to your dollar store to pick up items like:
- Tablecloths
- Balloons
- Plates
- Plasticware
Other affordable theme-oriented extras can be found on Amazon. Party stores can be a good place to find décor too but often cost more.
Free or Budget Friendly Baby Shower Invitations
There are a few options when sending out baby shower invitations on a budget. I will list a few free options, then give you some ideas on where to purchase pretty baby shower invitations on a budget.
Free Baby Shower Invitations:
- Send out a group text message with all the details of the baby shower ( including a link to your baby registry. Don’t know what to put on your baby registry? Get your free baby registry checklist here ) and kindly ask them to RSVP via text message by a certain date to get a head count of how many people you will be expected to feed and have party favors available for.
- Make a beautiful digital invitation using Canva. Email or text it to anyone you want to invite.
Budget Friendly Baby Shower Invitation Ideas:
- Make beautiful baby shower invitations on Canva, print them on cardstock, get some envelopes and stamps, and send them out in the mailbox!
- Purchase budget-friendly baby shower invitations from Amazon. Here are a few really nice options:
Baby Shower Food Ideas on A Budget
The best way to feed a large group of people at your baby shower on a budget is to serve finger food, appetizers, or do it potluck style.
Food Ideas:
- Pot luck
- Finger food: Inexpensive fruit that serves a lot of people, such as watermelon, orange slices, apple slices, veggies & dip, chips and dip, little crock pot finger sausages or meatballs, sliders/small sandwiches, cheese cubes
- Sandwich bar
- Taco/burrito bar
- Pastry bar
- One cake with fruit and veggie trays to snack on
Drink Ideas:
- Water
- Tea (here in the south, we have sweet tea at every event)
- Lemonade
- Orangeade
- Colored Punch that matches baby shower theme colors
Free Or Budget Friendly Baby Shower Games
I didn’t have games at my baby shower, but I know a lot of people like to include that for the fun of it! It’s something that makes the celebration a little more memorable!
If you have a very low budget, you can use other games you find online as inspiration, and make your own version using Canva, then print them out for the baby shower.
Another option is searching for baby shower game printables on Etsy. There is an immense amount to choose from on there!
And lastly, you can find baby shower game bundles on Amazon that are already printed out. Just put your order in and they will arrive already printed to your home.
Here are a few great cheap baby shower game bundles on Amazon to choose from:
- Baby Shower Family Feud Game
- Baby Shower Word Scramble and True or False Games
- Baby Prediction and Advice Cards, Baby Trivia, True Or False, and Word Scramble Game Bundle
- Who Knows Mommy Best, Fun Baby Facts, Baby Predictions, Word Search, and Word Scramble Baby Shower Game Bundle
Make Your Own Party Favors
Show your guests some appreciation for coming to support you with a little gift! It doesn’t have to cost much. You can make your own party favors, like food or natural body care products such as soap. Or you can buy small products in bulk to lower the cost. I will give examples below:
DIY Baby Shower Party Favors On A Budget:
- Cookies in a clear party favor bag with a tag attached, thanking them for coming
- A small clear party favor bag filled with your favorite popcorn, with a tag that says “Ready to pop!”
- Your favorite herbal tea blend in a clear party favor bag, with a tag that says “Baby is brewing!” (could do the same thing with coffee beans or grounds)
- Make bars of soap, wrap each individual bar, add a tag that says “From my shower to yours”
- Trail mix in a small baggie with a tag that says “Happy trails ahead!”
Budget Baby Shower Party Favors Bought In Bulk:
- Tiny succulent plants with a tag or sticker that says “Watch me grow!”
- Bars of natural soap, bought in bulk. Wrap each bar individually and add a tag that says “From my shower to yours”. This natural soap comes in many different colors and scents to match any baby shower theme!
- Go to the bakery of any grocery store and pick up some cute pastries or cookies to bag out.
- Small jars with a specific color candy inside like m&ms, sour patch kids, or butter mints.
Use Free Background Music
Save money on a DJ and create a free playlist with your favorite songs on Spotify or Youtube. You can use a portable bluetooth speaker to play your music to reduce awkward silence and get everyone in a party mood!
How To Have A Baby Shower On A Budget – Final Thoughts
An inexpensive baby shower can be done! I’ve always been frugal, especially when having a gathering or event. Events like baby showers don’t need to cost a lot, they can be fun for guests and positively memorable for everyone attending without costing thousands of dollars.
