A Productive Stay At Home Mom Night Time Routine

My stay at home mom night time routine starts when my husband and I finish dinner. Most mamas may want to put the kids to bed before starting this night time routine. I typically take my child around with me until it’s time for the “work/hobby” section of the routine. That’s when her and my husband are asleep, leaving me to get done what I need or want to with full attention.

Then I plan for the next day with to-do lists, setting me up for my productive morning routine!

Staying productive is wonderful for you and your family in many ways. Mostly for mental health. I’ve found that keeping your mind busy with what is next to check off on the to-do list, keeps you looking forward to your next accomplished task.

This prevents you from sitting around the house, bored and all in your thoughts. Thus leading to negative thoughts. Trust me, I’ve been there.

Putting your body and mind in motion and getting more tasks accomplished boosts your happiness levels like you would not believe.

What Is A Productive Night Routine?

A productive stay at home mom night time routine is one that sets you up for success for the following day. This routine supports taking care of yourself and your family while encouraging you to prepare for tomorrow.

How To Create A Productive Night Routine

To create a productive stay at home mom night time routine that benefits your family most, you need to first assess the habits you currently have in your evening routine.

Are they working for you?

If not, what can you change to help produce a more productive evening for you?

Is there a solution that can help you accomplish your top priority goals of the day?

Ask yourself these questions and see if a light bulb goes off in your head of tasks you can rearrange to help your night run a little more smoothly.

Maybe you feel as though you weren’t able to accomplish your goal of the day and it has you feeling down.

What can help you accomplish that task tomorrow?

Take time in the evening to assess the current day so you can see what worked and what didn’t. Then try again in your new and improved way tomorrow and accomplish more. Thus creating a more productive day!

Clean & Tidy

Cleaning the kitchen up before going to bed sets you up to start the day in a better mood. Wouldn’t you rather wake up in the morning, walk into the kitchen, and see clean surfaces?

When I don’t clean the kitchen at night- leaving crumbs, smeared food and dishes laying around, it honestly puts me in a bad mood to wake up to that.

Just remember, we are trying to set ourselves up for tomorrow’s success. We are more productive and successful when we keep a positive mood in the morning.

As with the kitchen, it’s the same with the living room or wherever your children play. You’re left with a huge mess if you don’t keep up with it during the day. Even if you do, you’ll probably still have a mess before bed.

Take time to put all the kid’s toys away so when you walk out of your bedroom in the morning, you and your family are not greeted with a mess. It is always so much nicer to wake up to a clean home.

Get Ready For Bed

I go ahead and get ready for bed even though I have quite a few things left to do in my night routine.  After eating dinner and tidying up the house, I make sure to take my multivitamin, brush teeth, remove any makeup, wash my face, and put on pajamas.

Work Or Hobby Time

During the day, as a work at home mom, there is really no time to do any work when the kids are awake. So this is the perfect time to either do that work you missed out on during the day, or take time to do your Hobby.

For me personally, I use this time to write my blog posts. Sometimes I will use the time to learn something new online or just do a little online shopping. Because who doesn’t enjoy a little late night online shopping?

This is the most relaxing time of the day. Whether you choose to get some work done and be productive or just take some time to yourself, it’s still nice to be able to carve this quiet time out for yourself.

Make Tomorrow’s To-Do List

Making a to-do list is the most crucial step you must do in a night routine to create a more productive tomorrow.

Getting your to-dos all down on paper helps you sleep better as you don’t have to try to remember everything it is you need to do the next day.

Consider it a brain dump of everything you’d like to achieve the following day. Doing this before bed helps clear your mind of the anxiety that comes with trying to remember everything that must be done, enabling you to get a more restful sleep.

Daily Reflection & Gratitude

Doing a daily reflection just brings together your whole day.  You get to think about all the highs and lows of the day and maybe reflect on some things you could do or say differently tomorrow.

During this daily reflection and gratitude block of the night time routine, find a journal or notebook, and write out all of your feelings about the day.

If there was something that didn’t go as expected today, take the time to plan how you can improve on that situation the next time it arises.

Whether it be spending more one-on-one time with one of your children, improving communication with your spouse, or maybe as simple as drinking more water tomorrow!

Once you have that down, think about 3 good things that happened today and write it in your journal/notebook. My most recent looks like this:

  • Baby girl learned a new word today.
  • I finally got the guest room all cleaned up.
  • My husband cooked ME dinner tonight.

I like to reflect on the day to help remind myself of all the positive things that happened. Even if it was a tough day, you can always find something good in it.

Feel free to write more than three if you have more to be grateful for. I could fill the page with things but I choose to stop at three. Its enough to put a smile on my face before bed, thanking God for all he has done for me and my family.

I hope you try this so you can sleep better, lifting some stress off your chest before closing your eyes.

Aim To Get 6-8 Hours Of Sleep

My body feels best if I get 6 to 8 hours of sleep at night. I wake with more energy and I’m ready to start my morning routine without any caffeine!
