Top 10 Pregnancy Essentials For New Moms

If you’ve never been pregnant before, I can almost guarantee your brain is running 10 miles per minute, attempting to figure out what pregnancy essentials you are going to need and when you should start using them.

This guide is full of the pregnancy essentials I used while I was pregnant and would recommend to a friend.

I know being pregnant for the first time can be overwhelming. It was for me, at least for the first 3 months…and let’s face it, the last 3 as well- stressing about the pain of labor and delivery.

But you will get through it with grace and joy, flaunting that beautiful pregnant baby bump around. Half the items on this pregnancy essentials list, you probably already have! There’s really not much you need to buy yourself while your pregnant. The main thing to focus on is staying healthy, and preparing everything you need for your newborn.

Items For A Healthy Pregnancy

Prenatal Vitamins

This is one of the very first things you’ll need once you find out you’re pregnant, and even after when you’re breastfeeding. It may be a good idea to stock up.

I got 4 (90 count) bottles of Nature Made Prenatal vitamins so I already had them and had no excuse not to take them once I ran out of the first bottle. One great thing I noticed with these prenatals is my hair and nails!

I’ve taken many vitamins over the years to help strengthen and grow my hair and nails, but nothing has worked like prenatals have. So, there’s an added plus for having to swallow a pill every day!

Lotion

When your belly starts getting itchy, DON’T SCRATCH! (It’s known to make stretch marks worse) Just go lather it up with lotion!

My favorites are Burt’s Bees’ Mama Bee belly butter and Body Merry’s Stretch Marks & Scars body butter. I’m not sure which is better because I used them interchangeably. But my skin is in incredible shape! So, I recommend either one.

Tums

Go ahead and get you a jumbo box of TUMS. I needed them mostly in my first and third trimesters.

Deodorant

Your body is changing and creating extra blood to share with your baby. Therefore, making you a bit warmer! Don’t forget to put on your deodorant!

Native deodorant is my all-time favorite. I just started using it about a month ago, and am in love. I have the Lavender & Rose scent. It makes you smell fresh and doesn’t stain your clothes.

Another perk is that it’s free of Aluminum (if you didn’t know already, this ingredient can cause breast cancer), Parabens & Sulfates. It’s also a vegan product and cruelty free!

Lots of Water

Having a large water bottle helped me a lot during pregnancy. I got hot and light-headed frequently during pregnancy. So for me, water was a must have to keep with me anywhere I went. My glass water bottle is something that stays glued to me!

I try to avoid extra sugar and sodium. So, when I got tired of drinking plain water, I went for the sparkling flavored water. I tried so many before I found some that were really good. 100% recommend the sparkling water brand Bubly (favorite flavors: peach & blackberry).

Items For Comfort During Pregnancy

Pregnancy Pillow

As mentioned in my Pregnancy Back Pain Relief post, a pregnancy pillow is on the top of the list for any stage of pregnancy. In my first trimester, it helped my hip and back pain disappear. And on to my second and third trimester, it held the weight of my belly up, making it more comfortable to sleep.

Check out the guide to purchasing the best pregnancy body pillow for your specific needs. There, you will find the top suggested pregnancy pillows to help get rid of back and hip pain so you can sleep better at night while pregnant.

Belly Band

For the last half of pregnancy, a belly band (or pregnancy belt) works wonders. Especially if your baby likes to hang out way down low, using your bladder as a punching bag; causing back pain and pressure in your lower abdomen.

Bras

Your breasts are going to grow ladies! Thus, you’ll be needing a few new bras. I don’t suggest spending a fortune on a new bra though, because you may keep growing for a little while. Also, here’s a tip: Bras with no underwire will seriously help you breathe a little easier.

I recommend this Seamless bra for around the house; and this wire-free bra for out and about. I know a lot of women like to go bra-free around the house, but if your breasts hurt as bad as mine when they were growing, you’ll be in a bra at all times.

Maternity Clothing

You really don’t need a whole wardrobe full of maternity clothes.

In my Maternity Clothing post, I show you great versatile maternity pieces that you can wear even after you give birth. In the post, you’ll find pregnancy clothing essentials to stay comfortable in every trimester- with dresses, stretch waist tops, maternity pants, and my favorite- maternity leggings!

Comfortable House Shoes

With your hormones changing, your ligaments and joints are relaxing and loosening throughout your body. Including your feet!

You are going to be thankful to have those comfortable house shoes to prevent your feet from hurting while getting your housework done!
