As a stay-at-home mom, you’re already juggling numerous responsibilities. But if you’re looking to contribute financially without compromising your primary role, a side hustle might be the perfect solution.
In a previous blog post, I talked about my favorite ways to make money as a stay-at-home mom, and it was so popular, that I decided to expand on that and give you more ideas about how to make money as a stay-at-home mom with small kids.

If you have a way with words, consider freelance writing or editing. Websites, blogs, and businesses are always in need of content. Start with topics you’re passionate about – parenting, cooking, or your previous professional experience.
Virtual Assistant
Many entrepreneurs and small businesses need help with tasks like email management, scheduling, or social media posting. As a virtual assistant, you can work remotely and often on your own schedule. Your organizational skills as a mom can be a real asset here!
Online Tutoring
If you excel in a particular subject, online tutoring could be your calling. Websites like VIPKid connect tutors with students. This is especially flexible as you can often choose your hours and work from home.
Etsy Shop
Are you crafty? Consider selling handmade items on Etsy. Whether it’s knitted baby clothes, personalized jewelry, or digital printables, there’s likely a market for your creations. This allows you to turn your hobby into a source of income.
Photography
If you have a good eye and a decent camera, consider selling stock photos online through sites like Shutterstock or iStockphoto. Alternatively, you could offer local photography services for events or family portraits when your schedule allows.
Blogging
While it takes time to build, a successful blog can provide passive income through ads, sponsorships, product sales, and affiliate marketing.
Write about your experiences as a mom, share recipes, or blog about any topic you’re knowledgeable and passionate about. Get traffic to your blog using Pinterest or Facebook!

If you love animals, this could be a fun way to earn extra cash. Apps like Rover connect pet owners with sitters and walkers. This can be especially convenient if you’re already at home with your kids and have a fenced yard.
Babysitting
Ask your neighbors or friends to keep you in mind when they need a babysitter or ask them to spread the word that you are offering baby sitting services! You could even spread the word using apps like NextDoor and Facebook.
Daycare
Consider opening a daycare for children in the community to come to your house and care for them at home while caring for your own children simultaneously. You could help the children learn everything they need to know before going to kindergarten, and get paid from home!
Artist
Do you enjoy painting, drawing, or another form of art? Create art and sell it online or at local art festivals. Advertise your art using social media. You could even offer commissioned art pieces.
Laundry
Some people hate doing laundry. Use that pain point to your advantage, and do their laundry for them!
Wash, dry, fold, hang, and return their laundry to make an income from home!
You could even offer a weekly bedding wash option and add an extra fee for putting the bedding back on the bed!
House Cleaning
Gather your house cleaning supplies, and offer house cleaning services to your community! Post fliers or get on the NextDoor App or Facebook to let everyone know when you’re available to clean their house.
Youtube
Have you been contemplating making a YouTube channel? Get started, and you could be making money within a few months! Take some notes from Ali Abdaal, Jen Navaro, Learn By Leo, Vanessa Lau, and Alexa Saarenoja (my favorite channels to learn from on Youtube, ABOUT Youtube).
Video Editing
Don’t want to be in front of a camera, but enjoy video making? Contact some of your favorite YouTubers or local business owners, and ask if they need video editing help. Offer your services!
Podcasting
Do you have a topic you love talking about or teaching people about? Share your thoughts and knowledge in podcast form! Upload your podcast to as many podcast streaming platforms as you can, to increase your listener reach. Youtube even has a podcast section.
Podcast Editing
Not a talker, but would love to help out behind the scenes? Offer your podcast editing services to podcasters!
Streaming
Go live playing your favorite video games or just talking! You could even do crafts while telling life stories. Live stream on Twitch or other streaming sites and use affiliate marketing or come up with a digital product to sell there.
Selling Baked Goods
Do you have a passion for baking or cooking? Share your delicious food creations with others! Advertise your baked goods online with NextDoor or Facebook.
A close friend of mine makes homemade sourdough bread for people in the community, and brings in an extra $300 per week from home while taking care of her children!

Do you love reading and find yourself catching all the grammatical and punctuation errors? Put your skill to use making money from home by proofreading and editing blog content, ebooks, books, magazines, and more.

You don’t have to know everything about the subject matter. You just need to know more than the person trying to learn it. I know there’s something you could teach us!
Sell Printables
Get a Canva account, and start playing with the different elements, fonts, and effects. They even have AI images now!
A printable I like to make are worksheets for homeschoolers or teachers!
Also, printable wall art is hugely popular.
Search on Etsy to get more profitable printable ideas.
Virtual Bookkeeping
Are you good with numbers and organization? Bookkeeping is an awesome work-from-home job.
Start by asking local businesses if they need help with their bookkeeping, and build your business from there!
Add more clients as you get more comfortable with time management between caring for your family, house, and working.
Social Media Management
Do you spend too much time on social media? Start making money off of it, and offer social media management to companies needing help advertising their business online.
Maybe you’ve started your own small business online, and have learned a lot about how social media works! Offer those skills to other business owners, and bring in an income as a stay-at-home mom!

Do you love planning parties and events? Start offering your services online to your friends and family! Plan baby showers, birthday parties, anniversaries, family reunions, weddings, and more!

There are websites out there that will pay you to do online research for them. Make money researching various topics for companies.
Create and Sell Self Published Books
Have you always wanted to write a book or make children’s books?
Create them using Canva, and sell them on Amazon KDP. They will print the book, ship it to the customer, and do all your customer service! All you have to do is create and upload.
Create and Sell Coloring / Activity Books
Create coloring books for kids or adults, make activity books for kids or adults, log books, workbooks, you name it! It can all be created in Canva and uploaded to Amazon KDP to make money from home!
This is one of my hobbies and streams of income. I have only uploaded 3 coloring /activity books so far, but have already made $500 from it!

Print On Demand
Make designs using Canva, and make products to sell online such as clothing, bags, blankets, wall art, stationary, mugs, and so much more. Link Printful or another print-on-demand website to Etsy, or even make your own website!

Tips for Success Making An Income As A Stay-At-Home Mom
- Start small and grow gradually. Don’t overwhelm yourself trying to do too much at once.
- Be realistic about the time you can commit. Your family should remain the #1 priority.
- Consider your skills and interests. The best side hustle is one you enjoy.
- Be prepared for some initial investment, whether it’s time learning new skills or money for supplies.
- Don’t forget about taxes. Set aside a portion of your earnings for tax season.
Remember, the perfect side hustle allows you to earn money while still maintaining the flexibility to care for your family. It might take some trial and error to find what works best for you, but with persistence, you can find a rewarding way to contribute to your family’s finances while staying true to your role as a stay-at-home mom.
