Virtual Assistant

Many companies, individuals and social media influencers need virtual assistants.

Typically, virtual assistants offer services like:

  • Scheduling
  • Managing emails
  • Answer incoming phone calls
  • Write content for a client’s website
  • Edit blog posts
  • Content creation
  • Video editing
  • Packaging and shipping
  • Bookkeeping
  • Social media management
  • Manage websites
  • Data entry
  • Internet research

The sky is the limit with what you can offer as a virtual assistant.

You are able to make your own hours, work full-time or part-time, negotiate your pay, and create your own set list of services you are willing to provide for your clients.

A majority of the services you can provide can easily be learned through online tutorials. There are no qualifications or schooling needed to become a virtual assistant.

This can be a consistent way to bring in money for yourself or your family.

When coming up with what you will charge for your services, keep in mind your self-worth! Your time is valuable.

I don’t recommend charging way too high when you first start out. But at the same time don’t charge too little, else the client may not find you trustworthy or may get the impression that your work will not be of quality.

I recommend looking at what others are charging and use that to help you decide on pay.

Before you try to start this venture on your own; learn from a pro.

The Savvy System is an amazing, step-by-step course to teach you the in’s and out’s of virtual assisting to ensure you make the most profit possible. (Earnings starting at $30/hr – $60/hr with the potential of even more)

The Virtual Assistant Course teaches you how to land clients and where to look for them,

Video Editor

Video editors can make anywhere from $15 – $40/hour and in some cases even more than that! Many social media influencers such as YouTubers need video editors and many other companies as well.

You don’t need any formal training, though it would be beneficial to take a few online courses if you aren’t sure where to start.

There are a lot of good free resources out there that you can learn from as well. But if you want more in depth training, that’s something you’d benefit to pay for. And it doesn’t have to be expensive either! Udemy offers courses on Video Editing that can be very helpful.

Social Media Manager

Social Media Managers are usually in charge of maintaining clients accounts on sites like Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Twitter, Google Plus and any other account the client may have.

With this job, you will typically monitor and moderate what goes on within the client’s accounts.

They are expected to:

  • Respond to comments
  • Manage brand partnerships
  • Create posts, photos and/or videos
  • Track analytics to come up with a marketing strategy to drive more viewers to the sites.

Social media managers have the potential to make anywhere from $34k – $57k per year (or more).

The awesome thing about freelancing is that you get to charge whatever you decide for your services!

Blogger

Write about something you’re passionate about!

People are always curious and want to learn new things. You can be the one to teach them!

I have a simple and free step by step guide for how to start a blog. A lot of people say you won’t make any money at all in the first months of blogging, but I was able to make $60 in my very first month, and it has only gone up from there. I’m here to help you grow a following and succeed with blogging.

To make a profit from blogging, you can integrate ads onto your website. When someone views the page or clicks on the ad, you will get a small commission.

You can also include affiliate links to other sites with helpful products or services that you believe in and want to recommend to your readers.

Through these affiliate links, you will receive a commission if something is purchased through your link.

Sponsored posts for brands are also a great way to make money blogging.

You can contact the company you’d like to work with or vice versa to write a post for them in exchange for a set amount of money or a product.

The income from blogging is limitless! Michelle with Making Sense of Cents makes millions with her blog. It is achievable, you just have to get started!

Freelancer

Create an account on Fiverr, Freelancer or Upwork and sell your services. There are many categories of work you could do with little to no skill starting out! You can also set your own pay.

I recommend going over to Fiverr and just see what services other people are offering. There’s so much to choose from!

I know you will find something you are completely capable of doing successfully!

Bookkeeper

If you enjoy working with numbers and keeping things organized, freelance bookkeeping could be a great career for you!

In the profession of bookkeeping, you will keep track of a client’s purchases, sales, payments, and receipts. Anything to do with money coming in or going out of your client’s business.

You will be expected to produce reports and financial statements for your clients so they can see how their business is doing financially.

Bookkeepers often manage payroll if it is involved in the client’s business.

You don’t need a degree to become a bookkeeper. However, it does look better to a client if you have had some formal training or courses. Training can all be done online if you choose to take courses.

It would also be very beneficial if you know someone in the bookkeeping or accounting profession to contact if you have any questions or need help.

I personally benefited from Bookkeeping For Dummies. It has an extensive amount of helpful information about creating reports and explains terms frequently used in the bookkeeping world.

Bookkeepers have the potential to make anywhere from $37k – $50k per year.

You can find clients through Facebook, Fiverr, Upwork, word of mouth in your community, or by placing your business cards in large cities near you.

If you’d rather work for someone and not do freelance bookkeeping, you can join Flexjobs and find remote bookkeeping job listings.

Medical Billing and Coding (Remote)

Medical billing and coding does take some schooling, but it doesn’t take long! You’ll be working in your new career before you know it.

With medical billing and coding, you’ll have a steady income while you work from home.

To help you better understand what medical billing and coding is in a nutshell, with medical coding you will be translating a patient’s symptoms, diagnosis, and medication prescribed from the doctor into codes. Those codes are then entered into a database.

As the biller, you will take those codes and turn them into a bill. Then file a claim with the patient’s insurance company to process and send to the patient so the doctor can be paid for their services.

For more in depth information about medical billing and coding, please visit this website. It has videos that walk you through what the job would be like and a list of great places to get online schooling or certification.

Once finished with the schooling, you can visit Flexjobs and search for remote medical billing and coding jobs to make a full or part-time (your choice) income from the comfort of your own home!

The pay scale for medical billing or coding can range from $26k – $54k per year.

Proofreader

Proofreaders correct spelling, grammar, and sentence structure of a piece of writing.

You don’t need a degree or to be certified in proofreading to get clients or jobs. While it may help, you don’t have to have it.

Proofreaders typically make between $44k – $58k per year.

You can use Upwork, Freelancer, Fiverr and more to find work and clients!

Downloading Grammarly would help you immensely in this profession to make your job a lot faster and easier. Grammarly basically does the work for you! It highlights where there is a spelling error or grammar mistake.

You still need to check back over to make sure you’re submitting quality work! It’s a helpful resource, but I wouldn’t rely solely on that.

To find a remote proofreading job, join Flexjobs. They have up-to-date scam-free remote job listings to apply for part-time and full-time work-from-home jobs.

Create Items To Sell on Etsy

You could make an endless list of products to sell on your Etsy store and have fun with it using Canva.

Some ideas include:

  • Business cards
  • Birthday cards
  • Invitations
  • Planners
  • Printables
  • Calendars
  • Stickers
  • Wall art
  • Graphics and text for T-Shirts, mugs, bags

The sky is the limit with what you can easily create to bring in passive income for your family!

Printables can include pictures, quotes, wedding invitations, and so on that you create on your computer or tablet and sell the PDF file in an Etsy store.

The customer purchases the PDF file and can print it on a sign, photo paper to frame, they could use it as a background on their computer or phone. Really anything they want it for.

But all you do is create the picture to sell and the customer does the rest!

All you need to do is:

  • Come up with a store name
  • Sign up to sell on Etsy
  • Create your beautiful and unique PDF printables
  • Post them to your Etsy Shop
  • Advertise your products for free on Social Media like Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram.
  • Keep creating more new content!

The more you create, the more likely customers will see your store.

If there are more products (printables) to choose from, they are more likely to buy!

You can use Photoshop, Krita (free), Canva, the Over App or any other digital editing software that suits you.

I like Krita because it’s free, easy to use, and a lot like Photoshop.

Don’t worry, if you’re not comfortable creating your own templates, fonts, or designs.

You can find beautiful premade designs and fonts on Canva.

When creating these designs, don’t forget to take a look at the licensed agreement that comes with each element/photo you use to make sure you are using the design correctly by their requirements.

Some people for instance are incredibly talented when it comes to digital art. As for me, I lean on premade graphics and fonts to help me make my printables something people would actually want to purchase.

Author

Amazon offers a service where you can create your own self-published book to sell on Amazon.

Whether it’s an eBook, Paperback, or Audio-book, you can do it all with Amazon’s self-publishing service!

This is a way to create a great source of passive income!

If you have a great deal of knowledge about a subject that you could teach someone, this would be a great option.

You will want to download Grammarly (yes, there is a free version here) so it can help you speed up the process of spell-checking and checking for grammar errors.

Other Amazon KDP ideas to create are:

  • Coloring books for kids
  • Coloring books for adults
  • Activity books for kids
  • Word search books
  • Planners
  • Calendars
  • Log books

I’ve made 2 adult coloring books in my free time this year and have already made $200 from the royalties! If you’d like more guidance on creating content for Amazon KDP, leave a comment at the bottom of this blog post or contact me.

Data Entry

Data entry is exactly as it sounds. You enter data into the computer.

Whether it’s a spreadsheet, MS Word, a company’s computerized database, or any other platform that you could enter information into.

Data entry will not make you a ton of money, but it will pay the bills! A great option to find a data entry work-from-home job is to go on Flexjobs.com.

You can then look through and see if there are any current job openings that would be right for you.

Work-From-Home Data Entry Companies

Appen is a company that offers mostly home-based work. Though it is part-time, you can use it to make a good side income at home.

The application process can be lengthy, but the jobs are fun and not all that difficult.

Appen offers jobs like Search Engine Evaluator, Social Media Evaluator, Transcription, Translation, Surveys, speech Evaluation, and more.

The pay is mostly around $10 per hour (which is why I say its good for side income) but they are a reliable company to work for and pay bi-weekly or monthly.

Amazon Mechanical Turk I wouldn’t call this one a “job”, but it is a way to make money if you are sitting around the house watching T.V or in your free time to feel like you’re being productive.

As an MTurk worker, you would be doing a variety of short tasks and paid a set amount for each task completed correctly.

You would be doing things like gathering information, transcription, data verification and identification, image and video processing and more. You can choose from a list of available short tasks to complete.

Like I said, this isn’t a job per se, but it will help you bring in some extra pocket change while you’re sitting around the house.

Most people are able to make anywhere from $5 – $10 per hour.

Transcription or Captioning

I have found that the most reputable and highest paying freelance transcription company to do work for is Rev.com.

If you have fast typing skills and good grammar and spelling skills, you will do well with transcription and/or captioning.

When applying to Rev, you will first take a few tests that include grammar and spelling skills.

If you pass them, you’ll go through a few tutorials and apply what you’ve learned in some transcriptions or caption videos that will be submitted for grading.

Once finished with the application process, it will take approximately a week or two (maybe less, maybe more) to receive an email stating if you have been accepted and what to do next.

Rev.com pays a varied amount of money per audio or video minute. Keep in mind, the amount of money you can make in this job all depends on how fast you can type and how good the audio quality is.

Rev.com pays through PayPal every Monday.

There are plenty of other Transcription and captioning sites out there, but Rev is the only one I personally would fully recommend to you.

If you know of any great ways to make money from home that are flexible and no phone needed, please inform everyone! I’ve only included ones that I know most about.
