How To Become A Virtual Assistant And Work From Home

Working from home is a dream for most people. It’s really not that difficult to make it a reality! Becoming a Virtual Assistant is a wonderful option for stay at home moms.

When I first became a stay at home mom, I was constantly looking for the best way to make money from home to help support my family.

I quickly figured out that the best jobs for a stay at home mom are those that are flexible and do not include speaking on the phone!

When starting my job hunt, all I could think about when being a work-at-home mom was an episode of The Super Nanny, when Jo (the nanny) was helping a family of which the mom stayed home and worked an hourly sales job.

She was primarily on the phone all day with screaming children in the background!

The mom was stressed out while trying to work and mad at her kids for just being kids! I did not want that to be me.

This is why I recommend that you become a Virtual Assistant. It is at the top of my list of work at home jobs for moms!

If you dream of working from home or starting your own business, I have answered a few questions you may have about becoming a virtual assistant.

Including what skills you need, how you make money, the potential earnings, and where to find clients.

What is a virtual assistant?

If you don’t already know, a VA is a person who completes tasks online for a business remotely or from home.

What skills do you need?

To be a virtual assistant, you need to have good organizational skills, good grammar, and computer skills.

Typically, virtual assistants offer services like:

  • Scheduling
  • Email Management
  • Write and/or edit blog posts
  • Content creation
  • Video editing
  • Packaging and shipping
  • Bookkeeping
  • Social media management
  • Project Management
  • Manage websites
  • Data entry
  • Internet research

Do I need a degree to be a virtual assistant?

Nope! No degree needed. And best of all, the tasks you will be completing are fairly simple.

A majority of the services you can provide can easily be learned through online tutorials.

There are no qualifications or schooling needed to become a virtual assistant.

There is an awesome free training offered by The Virtual Savvy to get you started in your business without the commitment to a more in-depth course.

How many hours a week do virtual assistants work?

As a VA, you are able to make your own hours and work full-time or part-time.

The more clients you have, the more work there is to be done. BUT you are in control of your hours.

What is the average salary of a virtual assistant?

I know, when looking for your next career, one of the biggest thoughts in your head is “how much money can I make?”.

Virtual assisting as an entrepreneur, can bring in as much or as little as you ask for. With earnings anywhere from $20/hour to $100/hour.

Gina, from Fully Booked VA, wrote in her blog post that when she first started her VA business, she charged $34 per hour.

She then changed that to a fixed rate. This way, she wouldn’t feel as though she was “on-the-clock”.

Gina could complete tasks on her own schedule and not have to keep up with her time.

I 100% recommend the fixed rate!

Are virtual assistants in demand?

To keep it short, YES. Many bloggers, YouTubers, social media influencers, and business owners need support from virtual assistants.

There has been a 95% increase in demand for VA’s in the last three years.

If you do a quick google search for only the words “virtual assistant”, the majority of results that come up have titles like “how to hire a virtual assistant”.

This shows there is plenty of demand for your services.
